Why Is Jesus the True Israel?

I know that you’ve likely been raised to think in terms of Jew and Gentile. That’s understandable, it really echoes much of the language of the Bible. I also know that some of you have been trained to think of ethnic Israel as God’s covenant people. Again, that is entirely understandable. But I think speaking this way, or exclusively thinking/speaking this way, is a misstep.

I say this because I believe we should interpret the Scripture the way the New Testament authors interpreted Scripture. As we read through the Old Testament, we should use the same lens which they used. We should think about Israel in the same way they thought about Israel.
